报告内容:Exploiting the “valley” degree of freedom to store and manipulate information is an emerging direction of condensed matter physics, and provides a novel paradigm for future electronics. Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have valley degree of freedom, which features optical selection rule and spin-valley locking, making them promising for valleytronics devices and quantum computation. In this talk, I will briefly introduce the development of 2D materials over the past few years, including the advances in the synthesis and engineering of various 2D materials. I will also report the unique physical properties of the 2D materials, focusing on the TMDs, such as quantum spin Hall effect, valley Hall effects and spin-valley coupled physics. After that, I will discuss our recent results about novel potential Qubits for valleytronics: dark exciton and biexciton consisting of one bright and one dark excitons in the TMDs. Finally, I am going to show the potential applications of 2D materials in novel electronic devices, bio-sensors, energy storages, etc..
